PERSONAL. —Mr. Joseph O’Brien, chief steward of the Maori, died in Lewisham Hospital at Christchurch last Wednesday morning from a paralytic seizure. He was taken ill a week ago while asleep in the afternoon, and remained unconscious until the time of his death. Mr. O’Brien, who was single, was most popular with shipmates and the travelling public alike. He had a long period of service with the Union Company, and had been chief steward of the Maori for the last four years. Mr. H. Spurgeon, late of the Tamahine, is now chief steward of the Maori. Captain W. Norbury, secretary of the Merchant Marine Officers’ Club, has resigned. Mr. J. Kettle has signed on the Ivamona as chief engineer, vice Mr. C. Broadley. MATATUA SAILS TU ESDAY.—Now completing her loading at Auckland, the agents, L. D. Nathan and Company, hope to dispatch the Shaw, Savill and Albion steamer next Tuesday for Antwerp and London, via Cape Horn. ANTONIO WITH PHOSPHATES.— Henderson and Macfarlane have received advice that the steamer Antonio sailed from Nauru Island on August 10 with phosphates for discharge at New Plymouth and 'Wanganui. She is expected to arrive at New Plymouth on August 22., PORT ALBANY RADlOS.—According to a wireless message received this morning by Messrs. land on Wednesday next. The Port Albany left New York on July 13, and goes from here to Wellington, Lyttelton, Dunedin and Melbourne to complete discharge. CANADIAN PROSPECTOR REPORTS —En route from Montreal to Auckland, the Canadian Government Line steamer Canadian Prospector reported last evening that she will arrive here on Tuesday afternoon next. The vessel left Montreal of June 27 with a cargo of general merchandise. From Auckland she goes to Wellington, Lyttelton, Timaru, and Dunedin to complete discharge, returning here about the end of August for final loading before leaving for New York, Boston, and Montreal. STEAMERS FROM LIVERPOOL.— The local office of the New Zealand Shipping Company has received advice that the following steamers are scheduled to leave Liverpool with cargo from West Coast ports of the United Kingdom for New Zealand:—Turakina, September 3; Tongariro, September 17 : Norfolk, October 1; Cumberland. October 29: Huntingdon, November 12; Hertford, November 26; Cambridge, December 24. The ports of discharge will be advised later, but meantime they are Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, Dunedin or Port Chalmers. TOFU A SAILS. —The Union Company’s Island passenger steamer Tofua (Captain Duncan MacDonald), with passengers, mail and cargo, left Auckland shortly before noon to-day for Fiji, Tonga and Samoa.
