ALLURING PAKAPOO
CHINESE PAY £25 EACH WHITE MEN ALSO FINED Press Association. WELLINGTON, To-day. To many white people the game of pakapoo is just as alluring as to the Oriental mind, and there is more than one Chinese shop in Wellington in a back room of which pieces of flimsy paper, marked with mysterious characters, change hands for sixpence or a shilling. There is a chance of a big prize for a very small investment, but sometimes the bankers and players find the game more expensive than they expect. Such was the case to-day, when Ah Young, aged 63, and Wong Koon, 23, were each fined £25 in the Police Court for keeping common gaming houses. Albert Andrews, aged 43, Bernard Walter Parker, 23, James Van Borssum, 37, Arthur Waugh, 49, and Ernest Regan, 44, who were found on the premises, were each fined £.2.
