MAORIS CLAIM FOR CONFISCATED LANDS
PARLIAMENT PETITIONED (THE SUN’S Parliamentary Reporter. l WELLINGTON, To-day Confiscation of land owned by Maoris, as a result of the Alaori Wars, has moved 94 natives of the Ng ;i Maniapoto tribe to petition Parliament for consideration of their claims. The petition, which was presented to-day by Mr. J. C. Rolleston (Waitomo) states that it is incorrect to say that no Xgati Maniapoto lands were confiscated, and that representatives of the tribe have not had an opportunity of stating their case before the Confiscated Lands Commission. They ask that the scope of the com*' mission be extended to include any claims by Xgati Alaniapoto, or alternatively. that a new commission be set up, or other consideration granted.
