English Universities Take Up Baseball

An interesting sidelight on the spread of baseball in England is furnished by an account of a recent match between Oxford and Cambridge, the first game ever played between representatives of the two famous English universities. The Cherwell, the student’s paper at Oxford, has the following entertaining reference to the match: “The dead eye of the Oxford wrecking crew revealed beyond doubt the relative merits of the two teams. Starting in the second innings, Clarke,Borset, Campbell, Bond, Hyatt, Lingelbach and Brodie socked the apple all over the lot, chased madly round the bases and tore home with seven runs, this lead was increased in the fourth innings to ten runs by Parker Hvatt and Borsch. , ‘.‘P- Vergusson alone starred for Camoridge, lie sharing honours with Hyatt an .?i=„ Borsh ln cl °uting a three bagger torSfJ 7 a ?i f , eatured ,ly ‘hat characteristic of all American baseball games. fnn= rlp <v and i J S ?‘? y comment from the tans.
