CONSCIENCE STRICKEN

THIEF SURRENDERS TO POLICE EMPLOYER TAKES LENIENT VIEW Conscience-stricken, James Murphy, aged 63, surrendered himself to the police yesterday. He pleaded guilty in the Police Court to-day to a charge of stealing £ll 12s from his employer, Jane Markey. Sub-Inspector Lewin said that accused, who was working at Westfield, came to the Police Station yesterday, and said that he had converted to his own use money which his employer gave him to pay bills with. Instead of doing this he came to Auckland and spent most of the money on drink.

“His employer is willing to take him back,” said the sub-inspector. Murphy was placed on probation for a year and ordered to make restitution.
