AN ANCIENT SHACK

DEFACES TE AROHA REMOVAL ORDERED (From Our Own Correspondent.) TE AROHA, To-day. • Samuel McKibbin, an ex-borough councillor, purchased about three months ago an old cottage built of kahikatea which had been in existence for more than 30 years, and re-erected it without a permit in one of the best residential parts of the town. On being informed that he should have applied for a permit and furnished the borough council with a plan, he went through these formalities, but the plan was a picture of a fashionable bungalow cut from some modern journal and which bore no resemblance to the old shack that was being built. Charges under the by-law were laid against McKibbin, who was informed by the magistrate yesterday that the building must be removed, and if it was not removed the offence would be treated as continuous and heavy fines imposed. The hearing was adjourned for a month to allow time for removal.
