£6OO SHORTAGE IN TRUST CO. FUNDS
MANAGER ARRESTED (Special to THE SUN.) CHRISTCHURCH, Friday. William Ray Macdonald, a former manager of the Guardian Assurance Company in Christchurch, was arrested to-day by Detective E. M. Thomas on a charge of theft. Macdonald was charged this afternoon before Mr. E. D. Mosley, S.M., that on or about January 12, he stole £SO in money, the property of the Guardian Assurance Company, Ltd. Chief-Detective W. E. Lewis appeared for the police and Mr. W. F. Tracey for the accused. A remand was granted until next Friday. Chief-Detective Lewis said that Macdonald was a single man, and had held the position of manager of the company in Christchurch. On information received, auditors investigated the books and found a shortage of £6OO. Of that sum about £4OO had been refunded, but there was still about £250 not accounted for. Bail of £3OO was allowed, and one surety of £3OO.
