STOVE SHATTERED BY COAL EXPLOSION

WOMAN’S LEG INJURED .Press Association. NEW PLYMOUTH, Friday. A terrific explosion shattered the kitchen stove in Mr. Percy Sampson’s house at Sentry Hill to-night and hurled portions of the stove about the room. The fragments penetrated the ceiling and broke a window. One piece of the iron injured Mrs. j Sampson’s leg. ; The explosion occurred when Mr. j Sampson placed a shovel full of coal on the fire. The three occupants of j the room, the father, mother and son, had a fortunate escape from more serious consequences. The coal was secured originally from the Waikato, being bought as usual through the dairy factory. It evidently contained some explosive.
