MOTORISTS FINED Alex Hughes appeared before Mr. Wyvern Wilson, S.M., at Te Awamutu on Thursday, charged with driving after sunset without lights. He was fined £1 and costs 10s. * * * Charlie Motatari, a Maori, was also charged with negligent driving and with being intoxicated while in charge of a motor vehicle. He was fined £5 and costs 15s, and his driver’s licence was suspended until March 31, 1928. * * * A native named Pehi Maniapoto pleaded guilty to two charges of reckless driving and being intoxicated while in charge of a motor vehicle on July 25. He had previously been before the court on a charge of resisting the police. “The constable’s statement that you are a good worker and married, with dependants,” stated the magistrate, “is the only thing that keeps you out of prison.” On the charge of reckless driving he was fined £lO and his licence suspended until March 31, 1928, with costs 15s. On the second charge he was ordered to pay 15s costs.
