BEER AS CURRENCY
PRICE OF SOME TOWELS WOMAN’S MYTHICAL DEAL XJEER was the currency with which Selina Sinclair, aged 42, alleged that she purchased three towels and two knives valued at 6s 6d. At the Police Court this morning she was charged with stealing the articles. Sub-Inspector Lewin said that Mrs. Green, who lost the articles, and accused, had been on friendly terms. The loss was reported to the police, and when accused was interviewed she said that she had bought the goods from Mrs. Green for two glasses of beer. Mr. J. J. Sullivan said that accused’s statement was that the towels had been brought to her house, and that Mrs. Green had the knives at her house for the purpose of cutting tobacco. The accused was fined 40s.
