AVONDALE SOUTH WOMEN’S CLUB
The Avondale South Women’s Club held its usual monthly meeting in the Mission Hall. The president, Mrs. J. W. Kealy presided. Miss E. M. Morton delivered her usual report from the N.C.W. It was unanimously resolved: 1. That this meeting supports the remit recently submitted to the N.C.W. advocating the claims of the nonacademic child for more opportunities of development under a State system of education. 2. That this meeting affirms the desirability of raising the age of control in the case of incorrigibles so that the powers of the probation officer may be extended to meet the growing need of the control of minors. Members debated “That the Girl of To-day is An Improvement on the Girl of Ten Years Ago.” Affirmative was led by Mrs. H. A. Taylor and negative by Miss Newton. Negative were adjudged the winners. A dainty afternoon tea, served by Mesdames Oxenham, Key and Ringrose. and pleasant informal talk terminated an enjoyable afternoon. ST. JOHN’S LADIES’ GUILD The monthly meeting of the guild was held on Thursday afternoon, Mrs. Stanley, the president, presiding over a good attendance of ladies. The resignation of Mrs. Jackson as secretary was announced, and accepted with regret. The meeting expressed pleasure that she would still remain an ordinary member of the guild. Mrs. Proffitt’s resignation owing to sickness was received, and the vicar moved that a letter of appreciation be sent her and that it was hoped she would be able to rejoin in the guild’s activities later on. Mrs. Thodson was elected as secretary in place of Mrs. Jackson. It was decided to hold the annual bazaar in the Patriotic Hall on Thursday, November 3.
