STATE REVENUE SHOWS ADVANCE
FIRST QUARTER'S RETURN INCREASED CUSTOMS YIELD (THE SUN'S Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, WednesdayA substantial improvement is shown in the ordinary revenue account of the Consolidated Fund for the first quarter of the financial year. According: to a statement issued by the Treasury, the revenue and expenditure 4:or the three months ended June 30, compared with those for the first quarter of last year, are as follows: 1927-28 1926-27. Increase Revenue £4,945,689 £4,337,580 £605,109 Expenditure 6,093,756 5,816,812 276,941 Excess"' £ 1.X45,067 £1,479,232 *£331.165 * Decrease in temporary deficit. The principal increases in revenue were as follow: —Customs duties, £329,039; stamp and death duties, £149,767; interest on public moneys, £22,764; interest on railway capital liability, £189,447. The Treasury states that the increase in customs receipts is due principally to the recent heavy withdrawals from bond, and will probably b* offset later in the year by a decrease in the returns from this source.
