MORE PLAYING AREAS NEEDED
CRICKET BODIES ACTIVE CITY COUNCIL APPROACHED LOAN PROPOSAL SUGGESTED After a full discussion of the question of playing areas, the management committee of the Auckland Cricket Association decided at a special meeting last night to send a deputation to the Parks Committee of the City Council next Tuesday afternoon to discuss the position. At the meeting last night, Mr. F. W. Brinsden, chairman of the Parks Committee, and Messrs. J. Molloy and E. .Stallworthy, representing the Suburban Cricket Association, were present by invitation. At the conference, speakers* emphasised the necessity for good wickets and good practice wickets. Mr. Brinsden stated that nearly 14 acres were available at Point Chevalier. What he wanted to do was to provide for the younger players. He was quite prepared to go for a £IOO,OOO loan for playing areas in the city. (Hear, hear.). After further discussion, Mr. Stallworthy moved, and Mr. Nalder seconded, that Air. Brinsden be urged to bring down his loan proposal at the earliest possible opportunity. He felt that there would be plenty of support for such a project as sports grounds within the city. The motion was carried unanimously, and Air. Brinsden said he would undertake to frame a motion and bring it forward right away.
