FILM CENSOR’S WORK
2,751 FILMS IN YEAR RECORD OF BRITISH PICTURES (THE SUN'S Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, Tuesday. Of the 2,751 films, comprising 5,415,371 feet, censored by the Government cinematograph censor during last year, 32 were wholly rejected and 202 passed, subject to excisions. Only one appeal was made against the decision of the censor, and in that case his decision was upheld. Commencing on August 1, 1926, a record has been kept of British-made films submitted for censoring. Between that date and March 31, 1927, 356 British films of a total length of 427,250 feet, were examined, out of 1,978 films of all makes of a total length of 3,649,490 feet. The average length of the Britishmade films examined was 1,200 feet as against an average of 1,987 feet o>r all other makes, showing that the majority of British films were short in length. Most of them, in fact, were “topicals” and “scenics.”
