CLEAN SWIMMING BATHS NEEDED
Sir, — Knowing there is no surer way of reaching the bulk of the population of this city than through the columns of your most progressive paper, I hope you will see fit to publish this letter, since it concerns a matter of vital importance to the community. though we live in sunny Auckiwid. “where it never rains,” mid-Winter seems a strange time to talk of swimming, yet it is to our swimming baths that I wish to draw attention. I think it is fairly safe to state that last summer the most popular sports rendezvous were our two cold-water baths, and the Parnell bath in particular was packed to capacity on every holiday. Unfortunately, however, owing to the mud floor of this bath, on nine days out of ten the water was extremely dirty, and it was almost necessary to have a shower to get clean again after a swim. As the Public Works Depart-
