PLAYGROUNDS FOR THE CHILDREN
LADIES’ AUXILIARY FORMED That an extension of the work of organising and supervising the playground facilities for children in Auckland was now necessary was the unanimous opinion arrived at at a meeting of those interested in the work Jheld this morning when a Ladies’ Auxiliary I was formed. In outlining the work of the pro- j posed organisation, Mrs. N. E. Ferner | said that the. Play and Recreation ! Association had been at work in i j Auckland during the past 10 years organising children's play and playing i areas. It was now felt that they must now j enlarge their organisation, and with ! that in view it had been suggested j that a Ladies’ Auxiliary should be formed to further the work. The association had also formed a j Community Club. This club had been granted the j Napier Street School where valuable ! work was being carried out on in- ; structional and recreational lines. A NATIONAL ASSET “I think that no more important [ work could be carried out in the city j than that connected with this organ- ! isation,” said Mrs. Ferner. The children were a national asset j and it was tlieir duty to guard that I asset. This, said Mrs. Ferner, was borne out by the fact that according to the experience of probation officers, juvenile crime decreased wherever a playing area was established. ! It was resolved that the constitu- I | tion of the Ladies’ Auxiliary be j
! adopted and that the subscript*® o 2s 6d. a s I The election of officers result** 1 follows: - ftdfc President, Mrs. Victor Mackej. jj. I president, the Mayoress, f.
