FARMERS CRITICAL OF GOVERNMENT

NEGLECTED PRODUCERS (Special to THE SUN.) CHRISTCHURCH, Monday. At a meeting of the Methven branch of the Reform League, the following resolution, a copy of which is to be sent to the Prime Minister, was carried unanimously: “That this meeting views with alarm the attitude of the present Ministry in framing legislation which is undoubtedly to the detriment of the primary producer. It also lays stress on the fact that, under the present arbitration system, the awards pronounced by he Court are protective of secondary industries, while the costs, as passed on to the producers, are prohibitive. This branch is also of opinion that the time is ripe for a radical change in the present Government’s attitude in the framing of legislation, some of which works to the detriment of the farming community and the country generally, and pledges itself to press for an alteration in policy or to support a change of Government.”
