Country School Burned.—The school at Pohangina, 13 miles from Palmerston North, was destroyed by fire on Saturday evening. The structure was one of two rooms.—Press Association. Fatal Street Accident.—A middleaged man, Duncan McHardy, was knocked down by a car in Kent Terrace, Wellington, yesterday. His skull was fractured and he died in hospital last night.—Press Association. Bush Worker Killed.—While engaged in clearing away some trees at Kalruru, Nelson, Mr. John Fowler, aged about 33, was killed. A tree, which had been hung up, crashed, striking him on the back and pinning him to the ground. Car and Cycle Collide.—Through a collision between a car and a motorcycle in Coronation Road, Mangere, about noon on Saturday, the cyclist, Mr. Charles Baker, aged 33, of 10 Jubilee Road, Onehunga, sustained a fractured leg. He was taken to the Auckland Hospital, where he is propressing favourably. Building at Palmerston North.— Building permits at Palmerston North In July totalled 60, in value over £40,000, a pleasant feature being the increased number of houses. This was responsible for over £20,000; businesses and other premises account for nearly £IO,OOO. The rest represents outlay. —Press Assn.
Two Youths Injured.—Two youths, Janies Gurney Alwyn, 17 years, and James Higgs, 16 years, were admitted to the Gisborne Hospital in an unconscious condition late Saturday night, a ® a result °* a motor-cycle capsizing. The lads are reported to be progressing satisfactorily, but the extent of their injuries is not known. —Press Assn.
