BACK TO SAFETY
ENGINE AT NEWMARKET CROWD WATCHES PERFORMANCE Before an audience of about 1,000 people the locomotive which was perched across the rails at Newmarket was removed on Saturday afternoon. It would have been impossible to obtain a finer balance by anything weighing 72 tons than the locomotive which was concerned in the mishap at Newmarket early on Friday morning. The job was a most difficult one. It would have taken only a very small weight to send the locomotive hurtling down the side of the embankment. Three of the largest and most powerful locomotives were attached to the one in difficulties, and hauled it back on to the line and to safety. The work was performed under the direction of Air. J. Binsted, assistant locomotive engineer.
