“OH! WHAT A NURSE” “Charley’s Aunt” and “The Man on the Box” established Syd Chaplin in the front rank of screen stars. Even his brother Charlie probably never caused more actual laughter in any two pictures than brother Syd did in those first two. Now Syd has done one better in his latest picture, “Oh! What a Nurse,” now being screened at the Strand. Here is a comedy which is literally filled with laughter. It is fast, furious, rollicking fun from start to finish. Written by Robert E. Sherwood, editor and motion picture critic of “Life,” in collaboration with Bertram Bloch, it faced the possibility of humiliating disaster unless it were actually very, very funny. For Sherwood, as a critic has been merciless in his attacks upon other screen writers, and, as the editor of “Life,” he harl the magazine's own reputation to uphold. “Oh! What a Nurse!” simply had to be funny. And, in the production given by Warner Bros, ft is truly hilarious. Syd Chaplin appears as a newspaper reporter, who is called upon to substitute for the woman who writes the Advice to the Lovelorn column, and who writes -a stereotyped note in reply to a question of Love v. Money propounded by a romantic reader. The advice stirs a whirlwind of excitement in an influential citizen’s home, and Chaplin is ordered by his editor :o go to straighten things out.
