ORPHAN CLUBS

TAKAPUNA A good programme of orchestral, vocal and elocutionary items was very much appreciated at the Takapuna Orphans Club meeting on Thursday evening. Ero. Vice-President Blomfield was in the chair and put the programme through in good style. “Old Bio" is a regular favourite. Visitors from the Auckland Club, which was strongly represented, and from Northcote, were made very welcome. They have the right spirit, these Orphans! Speaking on behalf of the Auckland men, Bro. Hutchison “put over some real stuff,” and Bro. Harris, who is well-known for his ready assistance with Orphans’ orchestral work, did his bit for the Northcote contingent. There was a special feature of this meeting in that the club was regretfully saying farewell to Bro. A. A. Boyd, who is leaving the district. In presenting him with a silver cigarette case inscribed with the club’s badge, Bro. Blomfield expressed the sincere regret of all the members at losing their club-fellow, who carries with him the goodwill of all Takapuna Orphans. In responding Bro. Boyd wished the club continued success, and thanked the members for their gift, which, they were assured, was highly esteemed. The meeting closed with the enthusiastic singing of the club’s famous “Rangitoto, Takapuna, Pupuke in the* YVairau Creek” chorus. “The FrothBlowers’ Anthem’ and “God Save the King.” i
