BOAT CAPSIZES STRUCK BY SQUALL Jj) Cotie. — Frees Association.—Copyright CHICAGO, Friday. Forty lives were lost when a small excursion vessel capsized owing to a sudden squall on Lake Michigan to-day. There were 80 persons on board, mostly women and children. They jet out to escape the heat of the day by malting a short cruise on the lake in the excursion boat Favourite. yrhen it was struck by the squall the vessel assumed a list. This terrijed the excursionists, who rushed to the other side. Almost immediately the craft became submerged, only the upper deck remaining partly above the surface. Some bodies have been recovered. Dredges raised the excursion boat several hours later. It Is reported that other bodies were found o’n the vessel. —A. and N.Z.
