OHAKUNE NOTES

m.u.i.0.0.f. holds SUCCESSFUL BALr There was a very good attendant;* at the Oddfellows’ annual ball held recently in the Ohakune Town Hall, and the success of the function was assured from the commencement. Visitors were present from all par:.of the district, including a number oi members from the Loyal Raetibi Lodge. The hall was charmingly decorated with ferns, branches of foliage, a maze of paper streamers and softly coloured lights. At the front of the stage was a big electric sign with the initials, “M.U.1.0.0.F.” sparkling thereon. The scene presented was a delightfully pretty one, the charming dresses worn by the fair sex adding greatly to the colourful beauty of the room. The floor was in excellent order and the supper arrangements, under the capable supervision of Mr. H. Sinclair, left nothing to be desired. During the evening several novelty dance competitions were contested and resulted as follow: Lucky chain waltz Miss C. Plunket and Mr. King; spot waltz, Miss P. Dinwoodie and Mr. Blakeway; Monte Carlo, Miss V. Rockhouse and Mr. Ben Williams. The duties of M.C.’s were carried out by Messrs. C. G. Lane, C. Perry and T. Dinwoodie. The fun was fast and jolly, and the entwined colours of the competitors, red, white, and blue, enhanced by lighting effects, made a scene of gaiety in accord with the harmony. The dancers had a feast of fare provided for them, including spot, moonlight and chocolate waltzes, Mr. Joe Mount and partner winning the latter. Winners at cards were Mrs. Russell, first, Mrs. E. Smith, second, and Mr. H. Tickle, first, and Mr. E. Smith, second.
