FIRE-FIGHTERS IN DANCING MOOD
SUCCESSFUL AVONDALE BALL Patrons ot dancing can always rely on spending a pleasant evening at the Avondale Fire Brigade's annual ball. Friends of the firemen are kept in touch with each other during the winter at "five hundred” tournaments conducted by the brigade, so that when it comes to perfecting arrangements for the ball the committee can always safely make arrangements for a big gathering. This year’s attraction was no exception to the rule. Couples came on foot, by bus and by motor-car, and the “night” was adjudged one of the best on record. The Avondale Town Hall lends itself to pleasant dancing. It is commodious and the floor is always well “tuned up.” With good music and an excellent supper, conditions which featured this crowning effort of the brigade, it was obvious that nothing but success could attend the committee’s effort. It would be difficult to mention nil those who assisted in carrying the function to a successful issue, but the name of the honorary secretary, Mr. P. Brady, cannot go unheralded. There is now no possible sort of doubt about the divided skirt. It is definitely with us. It is fashioned in tweed, in georgette, in silk, in satin, in lace. And the beauty of it is tnat you would not suspect the division unless you knew it was there. Hence the success of this bold innovation. The new creation reaches perfection in walking, dancing and sports models. No matter how short it is, it keeps beautifully in place, because it is necessarily full enough to hang gracefully. Sports and walking models are made in cloth with deep box pleats; in the case of divided dancing frocks there is an exceedingly clever disposition of the draperies.
Putty for odd jobs is made by crushing a "handful of whiting in a small bowl and mixing it to the desired consistency with linseed oil.
