A Review for Business Men
ON THE ’CHANGE BUSINESS QUIET WAIHIS WEAKER Business continues quiet on the local ’Change, and there is little changing hands. Taupiri coals have firmed to see sales at 255. Hikurangis continue to improve and A preference were sought at 6s 6d, with sellers in at 6s 9d. * In timbers, Bartholomews have strengthened to see buyers at 20s. IN THE MARKET PLACE
CHEAPER EGGS DEMAND FOR ORANGES Oranges meet with a ready sale in the city marts. Eggs are cheaper and likely see even lower values within the next week or so. Most vegetables are in good supply and meet with a steady sale. Owing to transport difficulties poultry were short supplied thjs morning and prices firm. Good cooking apples meet with a firm demand, though inferior sorts are to be had at lower values. Island oranges sell freely, but lemons, coming forward in larger quantities, are meeting with a slightly easier market. A fresh shipment of citrus fruit from over the Tasman is due on the Sydney boat early next week. The Fiji boat is not expected till the following week. Ex Wellington, toward the middle of next week, merchants expect a small quantity of Island fruit. In the field and garden section steady business is recorded with the market still glutted with inferior quality onions. Eggs have slumped to see hens’ selling at 2s to 2s Id, and duck eggs at Is lOd to 2s a dozen.
Owing to disorganisation of the railway services the market is rather short supplied with poultry and pigs. Prime birds especially are meeting with an exceptionally strong demand, and cockerels and heavy hens are keenly sought after.
