WALKED INTO TRAIN
CARRIED OVER CROSSING WOMAN’S LUCKY ESCAPE (From Our Oxen Correspondent.) WHANGAREI, To-day. After being carried from a level crossing across a cattle-stop by the engine of a goods train, Mrs. Alice Dreadon, aged 63, of Kamo Road, can boast of a remarkable escape from serious injury. Mrs. Dreadon was a passenger by the 4 p.m. bus to Kamo, and the driver on pulling up on the town side of Kamo Road crossing, adjacent to Mrs. Dreadon’s home, warned her that a. train was approaching. Apparently Mrs. Dreadon did not heed the injunction, and walked right into the front of the engine of the mixed train, which crosses the northbound express at Kamo. The engine had whistled the usual warning, but probably the noise of the motor-engine drowned the sound. The train was travelling slowly, and Dr. Ward, who fortunately was passing, attended the injured woman, who was carried to her home. An examination revealed that no bones were broken, but Mrs. Dreadon’s hip and a finger were injured.
