“NEW YORK”
REGENT TO-MORRO^V Four boys grow to manhood on the sidewalks of New York. Then, their paths diverge. One enters politics, another becomes a professional gangster, and the other two organise a jazz band. But still their friendship continues unbroken. A woman enters. She too is a pro-
duct of the East Side. She has eyes only for Mike, but he, having caught a glimpse of Park Avenue debutantes, can no longer see her. Jealous in the knowledge that Angie doesn’t care for him, Trent. the gangster, sets out to win her away from his buddy.
New York —throbbing, ever-wake-ful, jazzy, rushing, never-sleeping—-enters into the plot. What happens? That’s but a small part of Paramount’s current production. “New York,” which arrives at the New Regent Theatre to-morrow. Ricardo Cortez is Mike; Lois Wilson, the debutante; Estelle Taylor, the other woman; William Powell, the gangster; and Norman Trevor, Miss Wilson’s father. How the boy of the slums meets the girl of the “four hundred,” how they learn to love each other, and how a terrible tragedy almost succeeds in wrecking their lives—all these make “New York” a melodrama that’ll be mighty hard to forget. Luther Reed directed.
