“OH, NURSE”
STRAND ON FRIDAY
“Charley’s Aunt,” and “The V aw the Box,” established Syd Chanii!! 011 the front rank of screen stars P 5 Jj his brother Charlie probably nL^ n caused more actual laughter in er two pictures than brother Syd ***? those first two. * *0 Now' Syd has done better in v-
latest picture, ••nL, a x u £ h , ■which win b, screened at tht Strand Theatre to! morrow. Here u , comedy which i, literally filled wi .i laughter. It is J™ furious, rollicking fun from start to finish. Written by Rob. ert E. Sherwood editor and motion picture critic 0 f in collaboration with Be,.
tram Bloch, it faced the possibility 0 f humiliating disaster unless it were actually very, very funny. For Sher wood, as a critic, has been merciless in his attacks upon other screen writers, and. as the editor of he had the magazine’s own reputation to uphold. “Oh, What a Nurse!” simply had to be funny. And, in the production given by the Warner Brothers it i s truly hilarious. Syd Chaplin appears as a newspaper reporter, who is called upon to substitute for the woman who writes the Advice to the Lovelorn column, and who writes a stereotyped note in reply to a question of Love v. Money propounded by a romantic reader. The advice stirs a whirlwind of excitement in an influential citizen’s home, and Chaplin is ordered by his editor to go to straighten things out. His exciting adventures fill an hour or more of exhilaration. Also on the big laughter programme is the new* hilarious Warner Baxter comedy. “Blow Your Own Horn.” which shows that to succeed in life “blowing your own horn” is essential. It certainly brings the most amusing adventures to Warner Baxter. Of exceptional interest on to-morrow’s Strand programme is the special engagement of New Zealand’s youngest soprano, Miss Sarah Stagpoole. This 15-year-old prima donna has a wonderful voice, and a great future is predicted for her. She is the niece of the famous novelist, de Vere Staepoole. She will sing some popular ballads, and music-lovers are promised a treat.
