LAKE TAKAPUNA LAND RESTRICTIONS

OWNERS SEEK REDRESS Land-owners round Lake Takapuna formed a deputation to the Takapuna Borough Council last evening to protest against the restriction of their freehold rights by the Health Department. Heading the deputation Mr. D. R. C. Mowbray, president of the Lake Landowners’ Association, said that the Health Department was preventing land-owners from subdividing their property on the grounds that close settlement would spoil the purity of the lake waters. Owners were being deprived of their ordinary freehold rights and would seek rectification of the injustice either at law or by representation to Parliament. Mr. T. Mclndoe asked the supnort of the council for the association. It was hoped that the affair could be brought to a test by the council granting building permits for the land. The Mayor, Mr. J. W. Williamson, assured the deputation that it had the council’s sympathy. The owners of land at the lake were paying high rates for lands which they were prevented from selling. The Mayor further assured the deputation that the North Shore Water Board would consider the question at its next meeting. The Legal and Finance Committee of the council was directed to report.
