A WELL-KNOWN AUCKLAND GARAGE
THE year 1913 saw a small motor establishment opened just off Symonds Street in an unpretentious building measuring 20ft. by 20ft. The stock-in-trade consisted very largely of energy and determination. The sales policy adopted was this —“Sell to the customer not necessarily the car he comes in determined to buy, but the car most suited to his needs,” then back up the sale by “CONTINUOUS SERVICE. The policy paid dividends in goodwill, the result of it was that more space had to be secured, and in 1916 that well-known property,
the Royal Skating Rink, in Khyber Pass, was purchased, and the business moved there with a floor space of 11,250 square feet. In 1919 an extension was added with a further 6,000 square feet of area, making the total 17,250 square feet, and 1922 provided still another increase of 8,250 square feet in the shape of an entirely new brick workshop, detached from the main building, thus bringing the total area covered exclusively by Miller’s Garage up to 25,500 square feet. In 1926 there was erected in a portion of the garage an up-to-date
Petrol and Oil Service Station, the cost of which has been more than warranted by the excellent results that have accrued therefrom. The business has steadily grown with the premises until to-day it is one of the largest and soundest of its kind in the Dominion. Its steady growth is directly attributable to the service which is always at the disposal of its clients, coupled with the important fact that it is an individual concern, and that Mr. W. S. Miller himself exercises the keenest supervision over the requirements of his clients.
