DULL PROSPECTS FOR CALF TRADE
POSITION UNCHANGED NO BUYERS OPERATING With the passing weeks and cows coming into profit daily the position in regard to the three-day-old calf trade remains at a deadlock. Buyers are not operating, and the organisations formed to handle the business are inactive. Last week it was announced that tho Department of Agriculture had tho question in hand and was negotiating with the Home buyers but. as yet. no definite decision has been announced. In the Waikato the position is that the bulk of the cull calves find the nearest convenient hole, while the skins go to the dealer. At the Auckland Farmers’ Freezing Company works, a limited number of calves are handled daily, the carcases merely being gutted and hung up in the freezer pending developments. Though a favourable announcement is hoped for within the next few days* the future is not at all bright, and. even if a market is found, the trade will show little protit this vear.
