BUTTER BUYERS ACTIVE The pay-out at the local butter factory on the 20th instant for June butter-fat was at the rate of Is 4d lb. There was also a small bonus, viz., Id for September and 3d for October. A larger bonus is to be paid to the suppliers at their annual meeting early in August. On the whole, the farmers consider they have had a very good season. The directors had a strenuous time last Saturday, when they had 16 representatives of English firms interviewing them re- the next season’s output. It was decided to deal on open consignment and Messrs. Foley Bros., Ltd., secured the business. * * * The Public Works Department has made a start with the construction of the railway platform on the Strand. * * * A contract for the erection of a ticket and parcel office has been let and the work is to be put in hand at once. This building is of a very ornate design and will be in keeping with the surroundings, as the long stretch of reclaimed waterfront is to be beautified, the money being provided by the bequest of the late Sir W. Herries. When the whole plan is carried out it will add largely to the* attractive appearance of the town.
