“HOUNDED OFF!”

COMMUNITY BUSES POINT CHEVALIER RUN STOP OTHERS MAY FOLLOW To-day the community buses were taken off the run to Point Chevalier. “We have been hounded off the road,” said Mr. Harold Schmidt this morning. “There has been a great deal of •pin-pricking’ by the City Council. Every day council inspectors have been on the buses, making inquiries among the passengers and taking notes.” The buses are not to be taken off the Dominion Road and Mount Eden runs. When a notice appeared stating that this would be done the buses were so rushed by passengers that they are to be kept on. Altogether the General Transit and Social Club had 18 buses running in Auckland, four of which ran to Point Chevalier. “The community buses are very much appreciated.” said Mr. Schmidt, “and there is nothing more efficient. We have been pushed on every side, and now we have decided to take the Point Chevalier buses off the road.” The following statement was issued to-day by the General Transit and Social Club: The cheapest transit ever offered the citizens has been discontinued on the Point Chevalier run until the membership role of the General Transit and Social Club is signed by all those wishing the service to be re-established. Similar action is contemplated wth the remainder of the buses unless patrons sign the membership roll immediately. Membership is now free, and signing this roll incurs no liability to the signatories.
