The Dominion Motors Ltd. held its annual ball last Thursday in Scots Hall, when about 175 couples spent a very pleasant evening. Apologies for non-attendance were received from Mr. C. J. B. Norwood, managing director, Wellington, and Mr. A. W. Duncan, general manager. Wellington. DEALERS’ CONFERENCE
An event of outstanding importance during the week was the conference arranged in Auckland by Campbell Motors, Ltd., of all dealers and subagents in the North Island handling “Durant” products. The increasing popularity of the Rugby ear—one of the Durant line—is increasing the work and organisation of the company’s operations in New Zealand, and conferences are a very valuable means of bringing dealers and distributors together.
Many matters of importance to the successful working of the industry were discussed, and Rugby dealers are returning to their homes better acquainted with the product they handle and the organisation they work in. The idea of holding the conference at a time to enable the dealers to look over the Olympia Show is also a good
At the conclusion of the conference a very enjoyable smoke concert was held in the tea-rooms of the Olympia Show. The meeting was presided over by Mr. Noton and a toast list was honoured, including, “The King,” “The Rugby Owner,” “The M.T.A.,” “Kindred Trades,” Mr. William C. Durant,” and “Campbell Motors, Ltd.” An enjoyable musical programme was arranged by Mr. Shirley, and besides orchestra items, songs were given bj’ - Messrs. Frankton, Bree and Grant, and humorous recitations by Mr Eastabrook.
“Get-togethers” of this nature are very enjoyable, and help to cement the friendship of brother dealers in the industry.
The “Singer” car dealers in New Zealand received a visit during the past few weeks from Mr. W. E. Bullock, a representative of Messrs. Singer and Co., Coventry, England. Mr. Bullock travelled over a good deal of the country by service cars, and visited, among other centres, Wellington, Christchurch, Dunedin and Napier. A sub-agency for “Singer” cars has been undertaken by Messrs. D. S. C. and Cousins and Cousins Ltd., Auckland representatives for the “Sunbeam” car. The general agency will still be controlled by Messrs. J. and W. White, Newmarket.
