ALL SAINTS’ SOCIAL CLUB A most successful dance was held on Saturday evening at All Saints’ Hall, Ponsonby. | Some 150 young dancers filled the ' hall and dadoed joyfully to the latest tunes, which were well rendered by the i Continental Serenauers’ Jazz Band. A feature of the evening was the Monte Carlo dance. To the consternation of many, “spades” turned up four times in succession. But their disappointment did not ' live long, as ballons and streamers soon appeared, the colours producing a picturesque effect. A dainty supper was served by some energetic young ladies, after which dancing was resumed. The committee is very pleased with the success of the evening, and it is proposing to hold a grand plain and fancy dress ball in the near future. S.P.C.A. WINTER SHOW STALL The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals wish to request all members and friends willing to contribute to the society’s stall at the Winter Show to send their contributions to the depot at 34 Customs Street East on any day during the show. Any information desired may be obtained from the honorary organiser. B. Wickins, telephone 46-073. Very warm and comfortable cushions can be made from a bright, cheap cretonne tilled with pieces of newspaper crushed into balls. They are splendid for outdoor use and handy for tourists when camping, for if thev become damp they can be so easily refilled. Cane seats of chairs that show signs of sagging should be scrubbed well, top and bottom, with very hot soapy water and dried out of doors. This will make the cane shrink, and the seats will be quite taut again. During wet weather put plenty of shoe-polish in the part where the uppers and soles of your shoes are joined. This helps to make the footwear waterproof.
