EDUCATIONAL LECTURE FOR RAILWAYMEN
RECENT INNOVATION BUSINESS MEN CO-OPERATE A recent development of the Railway Department is the educating of young members of the staff in their work, and for this purpose schools have been inaugurated. rpHIS innovation has been fully ap--1 predated by the Minister of Railways, the Right Hon. J. G. Coates, who has received the fullest co-opera-tion from the members of the Railway Board, and the executive officers of the department. Large business concerns have also shown their appreciation of this new work. An example of the generous assistance given by business men was shown yesterday afternoon, when arrangements were made by Mr. A. G. Cate, general manager of the Vacuum Oil Company, and Mr. Mackley, locomotive engineer for the North Island Railways, for a lecture to be delivered to the members of the staff by Mr. S. Miller, engineer to the Vacuum Oil Company, who is visiting New Zealand from Australia. The address was given in the social hall before a large gathering of railway locomotive men. The subject was “Lubricants and Lubrication.” The lecture was suitably illustrated, and ended with an excellent series of motion pictures representing railway matters in Australia and the new 200-ton locomotive recently imported into Australia. Many pictures of the Royal train were also shown.
Mr. Miller was accorded a hearty ▼ote of thanks for his interesting and instructive lecture, which was attended by both Mr. Cate and Mr. Mackley.
