100,000 Feet of Floor Space
THE WINTER SHOW PREPARATIONS GOING AHEAD HAMMERS are hot in the Central Wharf sheds in preparation for the Winter Exhibition. Stands are rapidly being erected and exhibitors will be able to take possession of their space on Monday. Apart from competitive exhibits, there are 200 stands and over 100,000 square feet of floor space. District courts have been taken by Te Kuiti, Franklin, Thames, Manukau, Taumarunui and as far away as Gisborne. The exhibition will be fully representative of the province and the Island, and it' it maintains its success, it will be easily the greatest show in the Dominion in its contents and in attendance records. Besides the side-shows, an interesting variety of which has been selected, there will also be several working models, which never fail to draw crowds at exhibitions of this kind. A model of the Whau Canal, the proposed link between the Waitemata and the Manukau Harbours, will be shown, so that visitors will be made fully cognisant with the scheme. Another feature that will certainly draw an interested crowd will be the exhibits of the electrical and gas sections, which have been arranged on an elaborate scale. The opening day is next Thursday, when there will be present either the Prime Minister or the Hon. A. D. McLeod. A feature arranged for the show is a theatre, which will show pictures, and where also will be staged concerts and dancing. The Ponsonby Boys’ Band will provide the music and will open the show by marching through the town from Karangahape Road. The loud-speaker which is being installed to broadcast music and information during the show will be working for the first time in New Zealand
