AMATEUR WIRELESS

GOOD WORK ACCOMPLISHED VOYAGE OF KORUA (.Special to THE SUN.) GISBORNE, To-day. A feature of the voyage of the Gisborne Harbour Board dredge Korua to Auckland is the fact that wireless communication between Gisborne and the Korua was maintained by two amateurs, R. J. Patty being on the dredge, and Ivan O’Meara controlling the land station. Both operators have achieved many distinctions in the amateur wireless world, and the arrangements for the present voyage were not novel. When the vessel was first brought from Australia Patty went to Melbourne to act as wireless operator, and from the start to the finish of the voyage maintained communication with O’Meara thrice daily. During the present trip O’Meara hooks on to the Koma, transmitting weather reports and advising the Harbour Board of the vessel’s progress.
