POLICE PLAY RIGHT BOWER

LEGALITY OF EUCHRE QUESTIONED IN COURT YUHETHER euchre tournaments TT for money prizes are legal or not was the question Mr. W. R. McKean, S.M., was asked to de-<t cide in the Police Court yesterday, when J. Remington and J. Lomax were charged with keeping a common gaming house in the Masonic Hall, Devonport. Sub-Inspector Lewin said that the defendants promoted euchre tournaments held weekly at Devonport. He contended that euchre was a game of chance because success depended upon the cards dealt. Mr. F. W. Schramm, who appeared for defendants said that the tournaments were run fairly, and a conviction could only be recorded if there was disorder in the hall, and there was no suggestion of that. The magistrate reserved his decision.
