OLD HAMILTON RESIDENT
DEATH OF MR. T. M. HILL Hamilton’s oldest resident, Mr. Thomas Millington Hill, died last evening at the age of 96. Born in Worcestershire, England, Mr. Hill went to Australia as a young man and took part in a gold rush at Bendigo. On arrival in New Zealand he took part in gold rushes in the South Island. ' He was a member of the commissariat department of the Fourth Waikato Regiment in the later stages of the Maori War. This regiment, in 1864, was stationed upon the site where Hamilton was founded. On his return to civil life Mr. Hill made his home in the new town, and lived there for 63 years. lie carried on business as a storekeeper. Mrs. Hill predeceased her husband a year ago. There are ten children and a large number of grandchildren and great-granchildren.
