VEXED QUESTION
DATES FOR WAIKATO CLUES CONFERENCE PRESIDENT AND POLITICAL INFLUENCE WELLINGTON. To-day. In regard to statements being made of possible conflict between Parliament and the Racing Conference in connection with the Waikato Hunt Club and the Labour Day date. Sir George Clifford stated this morning that it had been decided for the general good of the turf that the Waikato Placing Club should race on Labour Day. This had been approved first by the Auckland Country Clubs' Association, then by the Auckland District Committee. then by the Dates Committee and then by the conference. He had been credibly informed that if a plebiscite were taken among alt racing people concerned it would go in favour of the Labour Day date to the Waikato Racing Club, and not to the Hunt Club. Political influence should not be allowed in the distribution of racing privileges. The sport of racing, and all other sports of benefit to the community, should he so managed as to be above political or temporary interest.
