TROOPS IN CHINA
PROTECTION TO CONTINUE (.British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, Wednesday. Questioned in the House of Commons regarding the withdrawal from China cf an Indian Brigade, the Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Sir Austen Chamberlain. stated that the brigade was sent to China because it could arrive there quickly and it was not intended that it should remain there. Sir Austen Chamberlain was also asked whether the protective forces at Hankow would be maintained there throughout the winter. He replied that it was impossible to say what arrangements might be necessary for the protection of British interests in Hankow four months ahead, but, provided circumstances remained as at present it was intended to maintain a substantial force there throughout the winter.—A. and N.Z.
