To prove his befllfa this theory the Papatoetoe studnL£ secured two high-grade staUtoa,' W orthy Bond and The Triumph W of whom are at the service of breed, in this district. Owners of ,2:;" from which it is intended to br.2 future pacers and trotters are fortT nate indeed in having the opportuniw of securing a fusion of such wonderful blood. Mr. Edwards is breed?, extensively along these lines himseibut owners would be wise to give th Americans in their own territory ! trial before deciding on shipping their mares to other parts. ***** oil. | WORTHY BOND V orthy Bond is an aristocratic gentleman, possessing plenty of size bone and muscle, while his intelligeneyes and broad head proclaim him as one whose progeny should be verv tractable and docile. Worthy Bond was got by the world famed Axworthy, sire of the mightv Guy Axworthy, from whose blood eminated Lee Axworthy and Margaret Dillon (1.58 J), Arion Guy. and Mr McElwyn (1.591), and whose strain is looked upon as the greatest in the world. Preferred Bond, dam of Worthy Bond, has produced a n mber of record performers, including Peter Kennedy (2.3 J), while her sire. The Bondsman also got Captain Mack (2.34) and Colorado (2.43), thus showing that the breeding could not be improved upon. At the age of six. Worthy Bond promised to be a great track performer, and registered an attractive try-out of 2.11 to the mile, made without an effort* He had also as a three-year-old trotted the distance in 2.23. Unfortunately he met with an accident in a race during his sixth year, which seriously injured a fetlock, and caused a very promising trotter to be lost to the track, a loss, however, that bids fair to prove a gain to breeders. THE TRIUMPH The Triumph is a beautiful dark bay and stands somewhat higher than Worthy Bond, but there is very little difference between them in conformation. He was got by The Exponent from Mardella, and has been in New Zealand a few years. The Triumph has a winning race record of 2.85, but he was officially timed in the States to trot a mile in 2.5£. At Addington he was timed to do 2.8 J. The Expondent, sire of The Triumph, has left innumerable good ones, and included in his progeny is The Proof (2.5 J), The Departure (2.42), The Exposure (2.6) and. others. Mardella, dam of The Triumph, has left, among others, The Design (2.84). Going on breeding The Triumph has blood of the best, and as he has already left two winners in America —The Rags (2.5|) a pacer, and The Trellee (2.11), a trotter, he not only has proved himself a good racehorse, but a good sire. Though his stock are very young they are tractable and bear the appearance of turning out likely ones. BROOD MARES A contingent of well-bred excellently conditioned brood mares are kept by Mr. Edwards, and all have been mated with either one or other of the great Americans. Those in foal to Worthy Bond are: Fancy Pointer (who has a filly foal by Matchlight at foot), Agnes Chief, Oleda, Lucetta. a mare by Havoc, and others; while the following show proof of their cohabitation with The Triumph: Handalee, Lady Grattan, La Merial, the American mare Geneta, Canzonetta, Dorothy Dimple. Lady Northland, Koroena and Quinzola. MARDELLA MOTTO The Mardella property is admirable for stud farm purposes, there being no shortage of paddock accommodation, all containing rich and luxuriant pasturage. The various appointments are arranged on modern lines light and ventilation being chief features, while “cleanliness, comfort and constant attention” is the motto of the Edwards establishment. DESERVES TO SUCCEED Mr. Edwards has had a 1 mgtiiy a* successful association with the trotting business, and in his earlier career was a reinsman of exceptional ability, as an owner his colours were always popular. His interest and enthusiasm in the breeding sphere is decidedly.inspiring, and “Abavdos” trusts that tn Papatoetoe breeder will meet witn ui success his enterprise deserves.
