AUCKLAND W.C.T.U.
INCREASED MEMBERSHIP A meeting was held by the Auckland Union in the Y/W.C.A. Hall on Tuesday afternoon, at which Mrs. Cook presided. A letter from Niue Island concerning the good work done by the W.C.T.U. there was read by Mrs. Fulljames. An increase of 600 had taken place in less than a year, and the union had an influence for good upon the Niue women. A letter was sent to Mr. W. E. Parry, M.P. for Auckland Central, asking him to oppose the passage of the Gaming Bill, which proposes to give greater facilities for gambling in connection with horse racing. Mrs. Cook and Mrs. Taylor were appointed to represent the union at a meeting of the Auckland Community. Welfare Council. A very interesting address was given by the Rev. J. F. Martin, of Devonport, regarding his work in the temperance cause, which inspired his audience with an optimistic spirit. He paid a high tribute to Mrs. Taylor, who is the Dominion president of the W.C.T.U, and also to the other members of the temperance cause who had made great sacrifices in their time and their strength to further prohibition. A vote of heartfelt thanks was passed to Dr. Martin.
