WESTFIELD REVIEWED
I SHEEP MARKET ADVANCES WETHERS MAKE 37 - Yesterday a short yarding of sheep at Westfield saw the market harden to 37s for an extra prime pen of wethers sold on account L. H. Bourke, Waiotemarama. Other big-framed wethers, not exceptionally prime, made from 34s to 35s 9d. Extra prime 2-th wethers sold to 31s 6d. The majority of an exceptionally small yarding of ewes could have been better finished, but one small pen of extra prime heavy young ewes made £1 6s 6d. Just killable ewes made from ISs 6d. In a yarding of approximately 700 cattle, well-finished steers predominated. Heavy prime bullocks made to £l4 15s; heifers made to £8 2s 6d; heavy prime old cows to £8 15s. Calves met with keen competition for well-finished sorts and heavy prime runners made to £5. A total yarding of little more than 100 lambs met with the usual big butchers’ and exporters’ demand, and sold at late rates. A short yarding of pigs saw a sharp rise in values, especially for porkers. Choppers made £3 10s to £4 16s; heavy baconcrs, £3 14s to £3 ISs; medium baconers. £3 10s to £3 13s; light baconers. £ 3 6s to £3 9s: heavy porkers. £3 2s to £3 ss: medium porkers. £2 19s to £3 Is; light porkers. £2 16s to £2 ISs.
