JOTTINGS FROM ELLERSLIE

Operations are still very quiet at Ellerslie, but it is anticipated that the next week will see a number of competitors being extended in view of the approaching Pakuranga meeting. Several newcomers to the jumping game are expected to make their appearance, while a number of yearlings and two-year-olds will no doubt be tried out. Back In Toil Slump, who was unlucky in the hurdling events at the Great Northern meeting, is back at Ellerslie after enjoying a spell. The holiday has certainly benefited him, as he is carrying a lot of condition. A. Julian intends getting the gelding ready for the Pakuranga meeting. Fit And Well Though Royal Bonus has not been long in work, he is very fit and it appears as if the few outings he has had with the Pakuranga hounds has done him a lot of good. -He pulls very hard when exercised on the sand track. Holiday Finished At the conclusion of the Great Northern meeting Scot Free was turned out, but he is to be recommissioned in the near future. A New Jumper The gelding Spalmoor is to be tried at the jumping game, and trainer H. Hastedt intends giving him his schooling lessons when S. Henderson, who will ride him, returns from the Wellington meeting. Spalmoor should be able to jump, for he is by Spalpeen, who left a number of winners of hurdle and steeplechase events. Working Usefully J. Buchanan keeps Brampton in useful work, and is also asking Respirator to do his bit. This fellow was seen in good form at the Franklin meeting, but since then has not shown his best. Next season should see Respirator very much improved. Easy Work Town Crier does not accomplish a great deal of work, and M. Ryan is content to send him along very quietly, hut in such a manner as to keep him in the right order for a winding-up preparation.
