CLIMATIC RESERVE
VALUABLE WAIKATO ASSET By the action of the Waipa County Council in passing for payment its quota toward the purchase of the Maungatautari estate, the purchase of that property by the combined local bodies interested has now been completed, and the district is now assured of the conservation of this magnificent forest as a climatic and scenic reserve. The property comprises nearly 4.000 acres of some of the finest forest in the province, situated on the top of the Maungatautari Range, Scientists assure us that this reserve will have a most important bearing on the continuance of a regular rainfall which is of such vital importance in a dairying country such as the Waikato. The Government granted a substantial subsidy to assist in securing this fine property for posterity, and. together with the- local bodies interested, is deserving of credit for its foresight.
