BIG FIRE IN SYDNEY
DAMAGE OF £IOO,OOO
By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright Reed. 1.55 p.m. SYDNEY. To-day. A disastrous fire in Chalmers Street, in the city, destroyed Brown’s Building, the bottom floor of which was used as a motor garage, and the upper floors occupied by Moreton and Company, printers and stationers, also the Kurandra Private Hotel.
Four other buildings adjoining were damaged. The guests in the hotel were hurriedly ordered to leave the building, and had just done so when thfe adjoining wall fell upon it. Petrol stored in the garage caused a serious explosion. Several motor-cars were destroyed. The estimated damage exceeds £IOO,OOO.—A. and N.Z.
