TORRENTIAL STORM
Terrific Rains Bring Sudden Floods to Farts of London STRANGE SCENES IN STREETS By Cable. —Press Association. — Copyright. Reed. 11.30 a.m. LONDON, Monday. QNE of the most remarkable thunderstorms in the history of London broke over the Thames Valley this afternoon. There was torrential rains, and in some places hailstones piled up until the streets resembled the aftermath of a snowstorm. The City of London was in semi-darkness during the worst of the storm. Motor-buses splashed through the floods and the underground railways were flooded, causing a stoppage of trains for hours. At more than one picture palace in South London water rushed into the orchestra, causing the mu sicians to make a hasty retreat. The strangest scenes were witnessed in the flooded streets. Many women in South London were carried through the floods on the backs of stalwart men. Parents were seen taking off their boots and stockings and wading to bring back their children from schools. A baby at Fulham was found drowned in a basement in four feet of water. —A. and N.Z.
