The estimated population of Australia at the end of March last was 6,139,882, of whom 3,138,668 are males and 3,001,214 females. The increase for the year was 122,593, of which the excess of births over deaths accounted for 74,836 and nett immigration 47,757. New South Wales leads the States' population with 2,360,000. —A. and N.Z.
